Indeed. July updates. (As you guys have had more time to see and look at stuff, I'll be giving less explanations for things. Just overviews of the good and bad.)

I missed the final shot picture. We lost two new guys in this. If they had made it, they would have become Cruz and Druant. Obviously, they didn't make it. One of them was demolished by a Muton Beserker. This stock footage from the local media outlet gives you a good idea what the new guys last sight was.

Notice, Stringer has caught Davis's Kill count in half the missions. Snipers are king on open maps. Also, Gallo may become Cruz. We'll see if he survives a few more.

Sacred Vanguard: This is a rescue mission, where we find and extract a VIP.


Lost a Squaddie on the approach. After that, went pretty flawless. Ended with the VIP reaching the extraction zone.

I did it. Started a few days ago, chronicalling the journey of Oscar Company in the X-COM game I'm playing.

Also, Wilkas is proving to be a beast. Support characters are either medics or something more like a basic rifleman. I sent Wilkas on the rifleman path and she is tearing through the enemy. Always on the front lines or close enough to lend a hand with a longer shot if needed. I need to get Plasma Rifles instead of Light Plasma Rifles. Increased firepower will make her that much more lethal.

Operation Lazy Prophet

So, we have found and geared up to take on the alien base. This has the potential to go VERY wrong out of the gate if we can't establish a beachhead fast enough. So, here is a picture of our boys and girls going on this mission. Smile for the camera, it may be the last time we see you alive.

Taking a look around. From front to back, it's Davis, Ward, and McMillan


So, nothing immediately dangerous. We spread out, Furby heading to the highest ground I can find to make use of his new Plasma Sniper Rifle. Let's just say, he liked it, proven by the number of dead aliens he left in his wake.


Clearing out the initial area, there are three doors that lead deeper into the base. McMillan and Furby start to the far right, Wilkas and Ward take the center, and Davis and Avery take the far left. Here's the breaching series of pictures.






So, the breach goes perfect. McMillan gets caught out in the open and takes a shot, but nothing major. Sets us up with a great sniper perch and excellent cover as we dig deeper into the base. Here's Davis getting his during this exchange.



So, we clear out, all move up, and have one major door in front of us and I can hear aliens on the other side. It's a choke point (fatal funnel anyone?) and I set up all the firepower I can muster before we try and take this thing. Here goes nothing. (That's Ward and Wilkas at the door, Davis and McMillan in the sides, and Furby and Avery in the center, ready to start spending ammo.)



So, another game glitch, and it turned out good for me. Here's the photo before I give my explanation.



So, this should have been the end of Avery. A Berserker is a one hit one kill melee. However, I think that a fully leveled heavy in Titan armor can take it, and the game didn't know what to do. I had to restart because the game froze up. Good for Avery.

We pushed through that group into the final firefight, where we shredded the alien menace. Here's Ward taking a shot with his pistol and Wilkas cutting down some Floaters.

Word through the grapevine is that ya got me killed. I swear to sweet baby jumpin' Jevohah Jesus that if I did not go out in a blaze of glory, with AT LEAST a dozen dead aliens beneath my feet, I am gonna drag yer ass ta the nearest airlock in yer skivvies 'n toss ya inta the vacuum after beatin' ya senseless with a shower shoe!

... Ward, quit laughin'! Yer the shower shoe!

Lol. I'm just messin' with ya. I can't die, I just visit Hell temporarily 'til the Devil can't stand me no more. Haha.

August Updates. Three more missions after the base. Only one major hiccup, but you'll see.

Final Smoke - Terror Mission. This was at the same base we played on before. No crysalids here, but the enemy are getting more armored and harder to take down. Sad news. We lost Faust today. She got run over by a Berserker. She was avenged, but she will never be replaced.








Hidden Skull - Aliens landed in Canada. Things went fine, though Berserkers show up on almost every map now. They make things dicey. We are also now taking on Sectoid Commanders. They have psionic powers and use them to control minds. Took over a rookie on us. He was cut down before he could react. 







Fallen Heart - Aliens try to take New Yorkers. We said HELL NO! No major hiccups, just a few tight places and everyone is getting used to those.







And our monthly Council Report. For those of you wondering what this means, it means we're winning. For now. Also, three new named characters. See my personnel post for details.

So, September was rough. I'm facing down stuff that is brutal, and all my good equipment is doing little to help. It is no longer possible to leave a mission unscathed. It is just a matter of keeping everyone alive. Medics are vital. Here goes the recap.

Lazy Sentinel


So, this went terrible. There was a large UFO landed in Nigeria. No big deal. I send a few vets, a few up and comers and we should be set. Two Snipers (Upshaw and a new guy) two heavies (Cruz and Stone) an Assault (unnamed) and Davis. Should be a snap.

We start at the yawning maw of this massive ship, and start scattering for cover. Uncover a pair of Sectoid Commanders. Not the end of the world. Start setting up to take them out. In comes mutons, cyberdisks, drones, and every damned thing but the kitchen sink. We had no where to go. At one point, Davis had 8 aliens in his line of sight. It was terrible. We lost Upshaw, Stone, and the assault guy. Everyone did their best, but we couldn't all come home on this one.



I was so flustered, I forgot the AAR, but here is our memorial wall after this mission. RIP Faust, Upshaw, and Stone.

Fading Knife - This was a bomb defusing mission. Pretty cool break from the grind. Have to move fast, but the enemies die much easier.
