"We shall be arriving in two minutes, ladies and gents" said a voice crackling with static, as it came over the intercom. Louise Gray looked up at the sound of the voice and around at her fellow marines of the 710th UNSC Marine Divison who were sharing Pelican B-298 with her. Some of them were exchanging banter with each other, others like herself were just sat quietly gathering themselves for the task that lay ahead. Turning to the marine next to her, Louise looked into the terrified face of one of her boot camp friends. "Hey you ok?" she muttered quietly.
Her friend shook her head and Louise gave a small smile. She was feeling exactly the same way, but you couldn't show it, fear was poison in combat. "Alright people, let's get ready to kick ass out there. We'll be hooking up with the 712th over there as well" her platoon sergeant said, giving them the signal. As she stood up and got ready, she looked at her friend and said "Hey I'm just as scared as you are, anyone who says they are not are either lying or dead. Just keep your head down, stick with me and don't do anything stupid." Her friend nodded and Louise turned back and headed towards the gangway.
The gangway dropped with a thud on the surface of the planet, showing that they were in a ruined city. Turning to his platoon, the leader said "Right Oscar Mike to those ruined buildings over there and remember stay low." Louise followed the rest of the marines out, crouching and alert. She moved stealthily towards the buildings, keeping her weapon at the ready and scanning the area. Arriving at the group of buildings, she and the rest her squad, spotted the rest of the platoon. Walking over to them, she saw her platoon sergeant talking with another of the same rank. It turned out that the other sergeant was the platoon sergeant for her brother Daniel's platoon in the 712th UNSC Marine Division.
Spotting him amongst his platoon members, Louise waved to her brother, then walked to sit next to her squad. After further discussion with the other sergeant, Louise's own platoon sergeant spoke to them. "Right we are all moving out. First squad first, followed by Second, then Third." he said giving them a chance to get ready. When they were ready, he gave the order to move out and Louise followed with the rest of her squad, once again keeping her weapon at the ready and scanning the area. It was quiet, almost too quiet...........
