Personality Profile: Ward is your typical Marine fresh out of training. He is teeming with pride and youthful vigor and excited to finally have the chance to "fight the good fight." From a very young age Ward dreamt of one day becoming a Marine, and thus learned as much about the Marine Corps as he could both online and via his father. His friends soon started to refer to him as a walking Marine Corps dictionary and encyclopedia, always geared up to spout off random and occasionally obscure knowledge at a moment's notice if challenged to. This proved to help him in Boot Camp, as he rarely missed an answer to a question or a test. It also served to label him as a "know-it-all" to his fellow recruits.
Jon has been described as an optimist by his peers, and someone that can easily be made friends with. He tries to remain cheerful and motivated despite the happenings around him, a habit that is a side effect from the years of bullying he endured. This type of attitude can usually go either way for others depending on the circumstances, but most people find themselves on good terms with Ward most of the time.
Physical Description: Jonathan Ward's appearance is generally described as average by most people; he isn't the kind of guy that would stand out in a crowd. He has fair white skin and sports dark brown eyes and hair trimmed into a crisp high-and-tight. His body's frame is slim and his muscles are tone, though not overly pronounced. What he lacks in brute strength he makes up for in agility.
Ward has no scars and only one tattoo to date. Inscribed just inches above his right bicep are the letters "UNSCMC" in bold black lettering. Despite that currently being his only tattoo, Jon has expressed an interest in getting more done when he has the time and money to do so. At the moment his future tattoo plans include several more "moto" tattoos and a portrait of his fiancée, Charlene, inked onto his left breast, directly over his heart.
Background Information: Jonathan Michael Ward was born on August 17th, 2524, at the Saint Rose Regional Hospital. His mother Cynthia worked as a secretary at a local law firm and his father Michael was at the time a Staff Sergeant in the Marine Corps, and had recently returned from a deployment to the Outer Colonies. His father was mostly absent during his early childhood due to his lengthy deployment schedule (made worse because of the war with the Covenant), so he was raised mostly by his mother, who quit her job in order to be at home to take care of her child at least until he was old enough to start school.
To make up for the time lost between them, every time Jonathan's dad would return home from deployment, he would take his son with him on a trip to the far away town of Viségrad, in the Viery Territory of Reach. They would stay there for a couple weeks to a month at a time, and it was there that his father taught him how to hunt, fish, and shoot a gun. Also, Jonathan learned to speak Hungarian while he was there, as that was the native language of the villagers whom inhabited the area.
Jon viewed his father as a hero, and he wanted to grow up to be just like his father. He constantly told his parents that he would grow up to be a Marine. At first his parents merely dismissed it as just a phase their son was going through, but as the years carried on they realized their son was serious and truly passionate about jjoining the Marines.
When he was old enough to finally use the family computer, he would spend hours on it researching the Marine Corps - its history, customs andcourtesies, and etc. At school, Jon would tell his friends and teachers how fascinated he was with the military and all that he had learned from his research.
This eventually would put him at odds with some of his fellow students, who viewed Jonathan as a nerd and he soon became an easy target for teasing. For several years Jonathan suffered at the hand of bullying. In middle school especially, he constantly was bullied and belittled. But, by the time he began high school, the bullies had moved on and so had he. By the end of his freshman year, he had managed to make friends from all walks of life and the social totem pole. And during his sophomore year he met the woman of his dreams.
Charlene Simmons. She was a fellow sophomore that Jon had run into before on a few occasions, but hadn't really talked to all that much. That all changed that year when they shared a class and sat next to each other. The two quickly hit it off and became high school sweethearts. Fast forward two years, shortly before their high school graduation during senior prom, Jonathan proposed to Charlene.
And she accepted.
The two planned to have their wedding sometime after Jon finished Boot Camp, since he signed his papers the day after they graduated from high school. Jon soon said his goodbyes to his family and future wife, and shipped off for Marine Corps Recruit Training. Ward soon came to find out that Boot Camp was one of the toughest experiences of his life, and one he would never forget. When he finally graduated, his family was there to see him become a UNSC Marine.
Now, after having just completed three months of infantry training at the School of Infantry on Reach, Ward is being shipped to Sigma Octanus to meet up with his first unit. Second Platoon, Oscar Company, First Battalion, Twelfth Marines.
