Hello there!
If you're checking out our site, you probably have some questions, and so we've decided to help make things easier on you by answering some of the frequently asked questions prospective members have asked us since our launch. If you have a question and cannot find an answer here, feel free to message a member of the Staff. We're always happy to assist you and answer any questions you might have. Who knows? Your question might just be added to this list.

What year is your RPG set in?
Halo: Oscar Company RPG is set in the year 2543. That's approximately nine (9) years before the events of the first Halo game, and eighteen (18) years into the war against the Covenant. The 2540s were considered some of the bloodiest years of the war.
Can I play a SPARTAN?
Sadly, no. Our RPG focuses on Halo's underdogs, the UNSC Marines. Specifically we follow one specific unit and their adventures (Oscar Company). While SPARTANs are cool and all (we'll be the first to admit it), they're just not great for character development.
Can I have more than one character on my account?
As stated in our rules, no. We enforce a one character per account rule. It is easier to keep track of which character you're playing as by keeping each character on its own account; not to mention we feel it looks much better when your post isn't split in half between two or more characters.
Is there a word count?
Yes. We enforce a one hundred plus word count. That's roughly three to four paragraphs. So it isn't too demanding of a word count. We prefer to see people surpass that word count, but a hundred to a hundred-fifty words is the minimum.
Do I have to be a Halo guru to play here?
No. Quite the contrary, actually. If you aren't very familiar with the Halo Universe, that's fine. We can help you get settled, and we'd also recommend you visit Halopedia and do some light research into it, though it's certainly not required. The most important information can be found in the Technical Information board, and we've designed this site where you can make up stuff as you please (as far as home planet and all is concerned).
Am I restricted to only playing a Marine with Oscar Company?
While the plot of our site follows the adventures of Oscar Company, there are opportunities present to play characters other than Marines from Oscar Company through Guest Characters. Think about guest stars in TV shows or supporting characters in movies. With Guest Characters, you can literally create any character you want so long as we can find a place to fit them into the current mission. So if you want to play a Marine pilot, an ODST, or a ranking officer within Oscar Company or its battalion, you can!
I'm a civilian, and don't know much about the military. Does that disqualify me?
Not at all. There are actually several people here whom have never served with the military, and they're doing just fine and are just as welcome to Role-Play here as the next person. If you aren't very familiar with the military or how it works, that's fine. As stated before, a lot of information that you might find helpful can be found in the Technical Information board.
If you seek further or more in-depth knowledge, contact the Staff or another member for help. We don't bite.
How active do I have to be? Do I need to post every day?
Here at Oscar Company you needn't post every day. We handle posting in a fashion similar to turn-based RPGs. The GM (Game Master) writes up a post detailing the situation that the unit finds itself in and allows the other players to respond. Typically we give you two weeks to post a response to the GM post before we consider you inactive. All you have to do is make one post as your character within that two week period and you're golden until the next GM post.
If you're going to be inactive for awhile, just let the Staff know. Your character will be safe so long as you make us aware that you're gonna be gone for awhile. If you just disappear, eventually we'll assume you've left for good (though we will attempt to make contact with you to be sure) and your character will be up for death or serious injury. We do not NPC characters indefinitely.
What if I ship out to basic training and will be inactive for several months?
Again, as stated above, just let us know what's going on and we'll keep your character safe. Real life takes priority over us, and we understand that some things may take more time to deal with than others, so as long as you keep us in the know, we'll keep your character safe and NPC he / she with your permission.
Can my character be LGBT?
Of course. There is no regulation stating that a member of the UNSC cannot be lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transsexual. You're more than welcome to make an LGBT character. However, in the case of transsexual, we ask that you list the gender of your character as whatever your character identifies itself as the most. For instance, if your character was born female but is now a male (or leans towards being male), that you list his gender as male (you can describe in his history that he was born female).
Remember, Halo takes place five hundred years in the future. We feel that society has likely come a long way since our time. The technology has advanced, why not society too?
Does your site require Face Claims or Profile Pictures?
No. Generally we feel forcing people to have a face claim of their character is tedious and unnecessary. You do not have to have a face claim of your character, though you're more than welcome to if you prefer to. If you don't feel like putting up a Profile Picture, no one is forcing you to. Additionally, if you do decide to make a face claim, it can be a picture of an actor or of an anime character. We're not picky. Just make sure you aren't using the same face claim as someone else before you put up your picture.
