So, to be clear, I haven't seen the movie, just heard a review on my way home. This is my soapbox for a minute because I have nowhere else to vent it. You don't have to agree with me. You don't even have to like what I'm saying, but I gotta say it before I lose my everloving mind.
Benghazi was a tragedy. The very worst of what democracy and bureaucracy have to offer. Good people, American people, died because those who are supposed to defend them were not allowed to for reasons we'll probably never know. In a system that has watered down and lost the pride in who we are and balls to do what is right, regardless of the consequences, no one with the ability to make the call was willing to. We let American civilians die while the military sat on their hands.
This defies everything we are. I am a vet, spent a year in the sandbox, and did plenty of things that I never would wish on anyone. However, we, the military, are targets. It's part of the job. We get to shoot back, but at the end of the day, we're expendable. And almost to a man, woman, soldier, sailor, airman, or marine, we're ok with that. Do you people understand that we let civilians, CIVILIANS!, die? They aren't expendable. Even the most worthless are not expendable, you know why? Because that is our job. That is what we are supposed to do. Be a sword and a shield, and do our damnedest to make sure this never hits our people.
And not one General or Admiral was willing to do the right thing. Fun history lesson. A little place called Omaha beach. If you're an american and you're here, I think you've probably heard of it. The US troop were getting slaughtered and the guys at sea with the big guns were too far away to help. They called back to command telling them they had to move in to help. Command told them no. Too much risk for sinking the ships, and if one beachhead failed, it was losses we could take. (Told you, we're expendable.) You know what the skippers did? They ignored orders and pulled into firing range. It was that firepower and boost that got the soldiers out of that killing field and won the day. (Or at least helped win it.)
WHERE ARE THOSE LEADERS!? WHERE ARE THOSE HEROS!?
We let civilians die and didn't even land our own plane to pick up the bodies. What the fuck is wrong with us?
