Alright, listen up Marines. We’ve got a few changes coming down from command, and unlike most changes, these should actually help keep things moving better. In the long run, we hope this keeps your stories, characters, and enjoyment level moving at a pace that works for you.
We will be dividing threads into two types; basic threads, and event threads. Event threads will be marked as such: The Bridge (Event), Taking Orders (Event), and Let’s Start a Riot (Event). I think you see the running theme here. Basic threads will be marked with the team or group that they encompass: Team Time (1st Squad), Revisions Needed (Command), Sick Call (Furby, Wilkas, and Carter).
Basic threads are meant to tell your stories. They will have command (admin) influence and still be on a schedule, but they are meant to be a little slower paced and a little less about driving the overall story arc. You want to start scuttlebutt at chow? You want to hit the range with your team? All these everyday things are found in basic threads. Basic threads will also be found in operations in places that will work with them. Command will help keep the timing of all threads more or less the same, but these will allow your teams to work autonomously from each other and not have to wait on the medic (who’s with Third Squad) to post so First squad can move forward.
Guidelines for basic threads are simple. Keep it smaller. Preferably team size or maybe a squad if you have most of your squad being NPC’d. Keep a posting order. Admin will post every three weeks or sooner if you’re waiting on them, just to make sure things keep moving. If you have something specific you hope to accomplish with a thread and it needs admin support or approval, shoot us a PM. We’ll be glad to help you make your story the best it can be.
Event threads are meant to be action packed; full platoon (or company/MEU) events that help shape and mold the entire world. Things like our transport from the ship, landing on Phoenix III, and holding the bridge fall in here. While you’re expected to play off those around you, a posting order will not be expected here. Admin will post every three days, working to drive the story forward. If you are hoping to do something big (like drop a Hunter) or commit fratricide, contact the Admin. We love plot twists and want to give everyone their moment to shine. If you want to be a casualty, that’s entirely up to you.
Finally, and perhaps my favorite, is the opening of SOI (School of Infantry) on Reach. In our effort to bring in more people we are anticipating that not everyone will be a top notch writer. Hell, some of you who are may want to work on a facet of your writing or just get to know a new character a little better before you throw them into the field. That is what SOI is for. For the rookies, it’s a chance to get to know the world and learn to write in the style that we are asking here. For you veterans, it is a chance to brush up or even teach, if you are so interested.
SOI is happening outside of our timeline, and while you may want to keep the happenings there as a part of your backstory and character experience, understand that this is not a mandatory part of your backstory, it is simply writing training to get you primed for the actual RP. As always, if you are not instructed to report here, contact the Admin if you are interested.
Dismissed.
