Ladies and gentlemen,
As you know we are on the cusp of our third operation since the start of our illustrious RPG. I am quite sure some of you are curious as to when that will be starting, and so I wanted to officially announce that here. I will say we'd like to be able to move the current intermission threads along before we move on to HUMP because we love the stories that are coming out of them, especially all the character interaction (which is the most important part of any RPG, really), but eventually the show must go on.
So, our time table is this: Operation: HUMP will officially begin in mid-June. The second or third (at the latest) week of June to be more precise. We have some rather grand plans for it, and we'd like to discuss some of it with you so that you understand how exactly it will work out.
The OP will start off with a series of Event threads (all players participate), which will essentially be the work-up to groundside deployment. After the Event threads are out of the way, Open Play will continue again.
How Open Play will work is that the Team Leaders will be able start threads where their Marines are patrolling or doing whatever. Squad Leaders may also start the threads, although we are going to keep the threads small (no more than six people) so that the speed of posting is not affected too heavily. Myself and the Staff will jump in and GM things if the threads get too far off track, or if the thread creator needs us for any specific reason. However, for the most part, they will be your threads to run.
This Open Play will continue throughout the op. There will be more Event threads here and there, but mostly it'll just be you guys driving the story along. Halo: Oscar Company is your story, and that is why we believe it is you that should drive the story forward. I'd like to see more player involvement in that aspect, although we've been off to a fairly good start with the new system in our current intermission.
There will, of course, be a lot of threads happening at once, but that's okay. You will see the Command threads where Colonel Harrison and Major Killinger are working the mission behind the scenes, ensuring units are resupplied and missions are being accomplished, and passing down orders as necessary. You'll see what the PC is up to and how he is effecting the platoon's actions. And then, of course, we will see you. The grunts doing the hard work that gets the job done and the mission accomplished.
That is a lot of responsibility on your shoulders, but we know you can handle it, and the Staff is always here to help you along -- whether it be guidance, advice, or placing our hand on things to keep the story moving at a steady pace. We are here for you.
I also want to thank all of you. You people have really turned Oscar Company into something beautiful and unique. When I created this RPG three long years ago (it is amazing to think it has been that long already), I never quite imagined that it would be this big or have such an in-depth story. However, thanks to you, we have accomplished the goal I was shooting for when I created it: a realistic depiction of what it was like for the Marines on the ground in the Human-Covenant War.
We aren't heavily augmented supersoldiers tearing through hordes of Covenant at a whim, or high-speed SpecOps guys in really cool armor that drop from orbit into a hot zone; we're grunts. We do the nasty work that needs to be done to win the war and receive little recognition for it because of those two special groups. You guys have gone above and beyond the proverbial call of duty in making this place that is fun, realistic, and... Dare I say it?... cool.
You make the Marines of Halo, the often forgotten sidekicks that soak up the plasma and light up the bad guys, cool to be. You've made their story something worth reading about. It's fun to be the underdog, and I hope you all are enjoying it as much as myself and Flannigan do.
If you ever have any questions regarding our next op or anything at all, do not be afraid to PM us or post here or in the chatbox. We aren't going to bite and there is no such thing as a stupid question. We are here for you. Hell, everyone here is here for each other. We are a community in our own right.
Again, thank you for making my dream come true. You guys are the best.
New people, you are included in this. Each of you add a "layer to the onion" that had not been present before every time you post. I'm so glad you found our site and I hope you stay for years to come, or for however long we can keep this beast going.
Thank you.
