Personality Profile:
Temple can be considered a bit of an oddball. He has a sense of sarcasm on par with most commissioned officers and the deadpan snark to go with it. Affectionately referring to the Marines under his care as "dickheads", he can be a bit of a hard-ass but is easy to get along with - once you get to know him. Through nine - going on ten - years of service - the Corpsman nicknamed "Gravedigger" has earned the (dis)respect of most of his peers. Saving and taking lives has taken a huge toll on him psychologically, as with most combat-oriented medical personnel. He lacks empathy for living things and has disconnected himself emotionally, in order to distance his feelings from getting in the way of the mission. Every soldier is a potential casualty. The mission - his mission - is to prevent as many of those casualties as possible within reason. Due to his lack of attachment to his soldiers, Temple has developed a very dry/dark sense of humor. Typically he keeps it to himself, but every now and then he'll let slip an offensive joke about the last greenhorn that poked his head around an open corner.
While providing medical care, whether in or out of the field, Temple maintains a degree of professionalism with his fellow Corpsman - something that he expects from them, too. His mission becomes his focus and nothing should distract him from accomplishing that. Whether it's treating a minor injury or calling in a 9-Line CASEVAC, he puts the soldier's care first and everything else second. One less casualty on the field is one less folded flag being presented to the recently widowed. An event that Temple unfortunately knows all too well.
Physical Description:
Standing at 6'0" and weighing 175lbs, Temple can be considered 'built'. He maintains a 300 PT score annually, in keeping with his personal goal of staying as fit as he possibly can in preparation for the coming battles. His daily regimen consists of a five-mile run starting at 0400, in keeping with a six-minute-mile pace. Once he finishes up his run by 0430, his exercises branch off. Depending on the day, he'll either hit the gym for some purely upper-body exercises, or focus on cardio for the day by performing 60/120 sprint-walks and lower-body exercises. Whether it's lifting weights or performing stretches, Temple makes sure he milks every minute of exercise to keep his body in top-tier shape. When he's done at 0500, he hits the showers and starts the rest of his day. With formation typically being at 0600, he always reports at 0530. If you're early, you're on time. If you're on time, you're late. Every now and then he'll sneak in a book reading between showering and reporting for duty.
As for his appearance itself, the first striking thing about Temple is that he's bald. He keeps both his head and face clean-shaved and well-kempt. His baldness is a preference, due to it being easier to take care of and keep up with. Naturally his hair is black, as can be seen anytime he allows it to grow out just enough to stubble. His eyes are a brown-green hazel mixture, a trait taken after his father. Beyond that, Temple has a squared but prominent jawline, along with a chiseled yet slightly crooked nose. His forehead has more wrinkles than a plastic bag, not to mention he's missing a front tooth any time he grins.
Background Information:
Seth Edward Temple was born on New Years Day (January 1st) of 2518. Born to Mark and Rachel Temple, Seth grew up in Boston, Massachusetts. Located in the United Republic of North America, specifically the political remnants of the United States, Boston remained a busy and thriving city throughout the centuries. His father was a doctor and his mother was a nurse practitioner. The pair had opened their own primary care center within the heart of the city, allowing them to become a fairly wealthy family as it were. Seth didn't have much of a childhood to speak of, however, as his parents were always working or away on business while his nanny took care of him through the day. As he came of age, Seth was enrolled in a private school for his personal education. He excelled in science and literature, but he frequently fluked mathematics. His parents ended up hiring a personal tutor just to get him by on his math exams.
By the time he had turned 16, Seth was ready to drop out of school in pursuit of the military. His parents objected but ultimately relented. With a heavy interest in science and the art of biology, Seth found himself enlisted with the UNSC Navy as a Corpsman. Although he couldn't prove himself on the civilian side, he was on his way to becoming the military equivalent of a medical doctor - or so he thought. Boot Camp was perhaps the most grueling experience he'd ever face, but it's the one experience that whipped him into becoming the soldier he is today. He dedicated himself to improving his academic performance as well as his physical fitness. If he was going to save lives, he need to smarts and the brawn to do so. It wasn't long before he found himself excelling in his training, earning praise and the eyes of his Drill Instructors. By the end of Boot Camp, he had become a Navy Honor Graduate for his exemplary performance during training, both on and off the field. An achievement that he had worn with pride. Choosing to serve as a Corpsman with the Marine Corps, Temple was shipped off to his first unit in the Outer Colonies.
For the next nine years, Temple had found himself transferred between a half-dozen units. The Marine Corps was always low on Corpsmen due to the ongoing conflicts between the Insurrection and the Covenant onslaught, requiring him to switch units at a moment's notice. He has fought in numerous battles, taking part in eight different deployments. His first year as a Corpsman was, surprisingly, the only year he hadn't been deployed. Over the years, the rugged Corpsman has been given the nickname "Gravedigger", due in part to the mortality rate of plasma-based wounds. Temple is currently on his third four-year contract with the Navy, having re-upped within the last year - just prior to being transferred to Oscar Company, where his story waits to be told.
