The United Nations Space Command Marine Corps (UNSCMC) is a branch of the United Nations Space Command Defense Force (UNSCDF) responsible for providing power projection from space by utilizing the mobility of the UNSC Navy to deliver its forces rapidly. The primary role of the Marine Corps, unlike the UNSC Army, is to participate in offensive operations during times of war, and the protection of naval assets and installations from attack.
The Marine Corps is its own branch of service; however, it has a close relationship with the Navy, and its personnel are deployed from Navy ships. This means that most Marine units receive their orders from naval personnel or the regional CENTCOMs.
Overview
The Marine Corps serves as an expeditionary force-in-readiness. It must be prepared to mobilize at short notice when the order is given. The role of the Marine Corps is as follows:
Capabilities
The Marine Corps is among one of the most important branches of the UNSC as it is capable of fulfilling an extremely vital role in modern day military strategy. As an expeditious, air-ground combined task force, it is capable of forcible entry from the air, ground, sea, and space. The Marine Corps is also capable of conventional and unconventional warfare as well.
The most unique feature of the Marine Corps is its capability to be mobilized and deployed to a combat zone almost anywhere in the galaxy within days or weeks (depending on distance and slipspace travel times). This mobility is made possible due to its close relationship with the Navy. To support the rapid deployment of Marines, there is always a standing line of support and auxiliary craft to provide supplies for extended periods of combat in every naval fleet.
Doctrine
The Marine Corps places great emphasis on the capabilities of each and every Marine. The Marine Corps exercises the belief of "every Marine is a rifleman." This led to the requirement that all Marines, regardless of their specialization, must receive training as a rifleman. By doing so, no matter what happens in the heat of combat of a battlefield far away from home, every Marine is at least capable of taking on the role of a rifleman.
For example, if a pilot is shot down, he or she will be able to continue to fight as a ground pounder with other fellow Marines. The doctrine also places great emphasis on the initiative and capabilities of the small unit leader (NCOs) which is a great contrast from the other branches. Other branches place more responsibility on officers (lieutenant and above), while the Marine Corps places more responsibility on NCOs and Staff NCOs (Corporal - Sergeant Major).
