Personality Profile
Thomas Jeremiah Stone is what you'd imagine a Marine NCO to be. The Marine Corps is his life, and the infantry is his calling. He's assertive in his command, fair in his judgment of others, and firm in his approach to leadership. He doesn't necessarily agree with the decisions of his superiors, and he's in no way afraid to call someone out when they've made a mistake when appropriate (which doesn't exactly make him very popular with most officers). Stone has been described by his peers and superiors as a workaholic, and its been noted that he lacks much in regards to a personal life outside of the Corps.
In the field his biggest concern is ensuring that his Marines come out of combat alive. However, this does not mean it affects him a great deal when confronted with the loss of one of his own. Stone learned long ago that he has no control over who lives or dies, and thus isn't affected as much as some of his peers when his squad suffers a casualty. "Shit happens," is his favorite quote, and one that he lives by daily. Off of the battlefield Stone prefers to keep his squad as prepared for combat as possible. He'll constantly run them through simulations and field exercises to keep their skills sharp, and tries to ensure his troops maintain peak physical condition.
There's very little in terms of a filter between what Thomas thinks and what he says. Because of this he has a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor, and is known to have a very "salty" mouth. Thomas isn't particularly the easiest person to get along with in terms of making friends, but it's not impossible to become friendly with him. He enjoys listening to Harvest Country and is well-known to recite the lyrics to his favorite songs when he's not doing anything in particular. Thomas also enjoys hunting, fishing, and anything that requires the use of his hands. Stone is also a very skilled mechanic, having worked on everything from JOTUNs back when he was just a farm boy on Harvest to military vehicles such as Warthogs.
Physical Description
Thomas Stone is built like an ox, the bulk of his body weight being made up of crisp, toned muscle. He's fairly tall for someone whose hailed from the Outer Colonies, standing at an impressive six foot three inches. He has an oval-face with high cheek bones and a flat chin with a small crevice down the center. Stone sports somewhat thick and narrow eyebrows and jet black hair trimmed into the infamous regulation high and tight. His eyes are deep ocean blue that occasionally appear to change to a dark grey color depending on his mood. He sports a pointed nose that's slightly crooked from being broken on a couple of occasions. His complexion is a dark tan thanks to having spent a lot of time out in the sun.Thomas's most prominent facial features happen to be the plethora of scars that mar his image.
A thin vertical scar running from the bridge of his nose on the right side down to his lip, only to curve ninety degrees and come to an abrupt halt at the crevice of his chin. A narrow scar partially bisects his left eyebrow where hair no longer grows thanks to the tip of an Insurrectionist's combat knife. There's a patch of light skin that contrasts with his tan features on the bottom portion of the left part of his jaw thanks to plasma burns that required skin to be flash-cloned and grafted there. A particularly long and hideous looking scar runs from his left cheek to his ear where the tip is missing thanks to a grazing shot from an Innie's rifle. The marks on his face only make up a small percentage of the scars and burns that can be found across his entire body.
Stone has broad shoulders and long, muscular arms. His pectoral muscles are especially pronounced and he possesses a small birth mark beside his right nipple. His abdominal region is less pronounced than one would expect due to his habit of drinking - a layer of fat having accumulated over what once were well-defined abs. However, his gut isn't as visible as one might think when he's in uniform, to which Thomas is grateful for. Stone has several tattoos across his body. On the left side of his chest, a few inches above his left nipple is the Harvest flag with the words "Gone, But Not Forgotten" written directly below it. Inked on the upper part of his right arm is a UNSCMC tattoo and on his left arm are the letters "SOH" which stand for "Straight Outta Harvest." Tattooed across his back between his shoulder blades is the UNSCDF logo with the words "Mess With The Best" above it and "Die Like The Rest" below it.
Background Information
Thomas Jeremiah Stone was born to Lucy Anne Garner and Jeremiah Edward Stone on August 18th, 2502, in the regional hospital of Gladsheim, Harvest. His mother, who was sixteen at the time, moved out of her parents house shortly after Thomas was born to live with the baby's father, who was a twenty-one year old farmer. Thomas began helping his father with farmwork at the early age of four years old. Every day after school he'd come home and tend to the farm animals, as well as perform small tasks such as picking weeds in the fields. By the time he'd reached the age of ten, Thomas was fixing and operating JOTUNs.
Because he focused on his chores on the farm and helping his father, Thomas saw a marked drop in his grades at school. He was notorious for not doing his homework. He became annoyed very easily with school, as he didn't like being cooped up indoors sitting behind a desk when he could be outside planting crops and fixing JOTUNs. Eventually he started skipping school, little to the knowledge of his parents. He managed to get away with it for several months before the school notified his parents. While disappointed, they chose not to be very harsh with him, as they were aware that their son merely wanted to be a farmer like them. Such a career choice wasn't exactly centered around academic knowledge.
However, it wasn't long before Thomas started mixing with the wrong crowd. At the age of thirteen he was charged with breaking and entering, having been caught in the act of breaking into a house a few miles down the road from his home. Soon later he was caught trespassing on private property while attempting to make some extra money from scrapping a large quantity of junk metal he'd seen on the property. By the age of sixteen he'd acquired a long list of charges, and after being arrested for aggravated assault, breaking and entering, and trespassing, Thomas was sent to jail - and looking at a prison sentence. His parents were highly disappointed in him, and even said they'd side with whatever decision the judge gave him. The court trial didn't last long. However, after speaking with a UNSCMC recruiter, the judge offered Thomas a choice. Go to prison or join the Marine Corps.
Naturally, Thomas chose the Marine Corps.
Six months later, late 2517, Private Stone became assigned to Oscar Company, Second Platoon, and participated in the height of Operation: TREBUCHET. With his unit, while under the tutelage of Sergeant Michael Ward - who saw potential in the platoon's youngest member - Stone went on to fight Insurrectionists on a number of Outer Colony worlds. The most notable battle occurred on New Providence, where the entire Twelfth Regiment dealt with a full-scale planetary uprising. After three months of grueling combat, the UNSC succeeded in retaking the colony from the clutches of the Insurrection. In the height of the campaign, he'd seen plenty of good Marines fall at the hands of Insurrectionist attacks.
Four years in, Stone opted to re-enlist. His parents weren't particularly thrilled with the decision, but they supported him nonetheless and were happy that he'd found a career that he liked. The next four years saw his unit deployed on a couple of occasions against the Insurrectionists, but nowhere near as frequently as during the height of TREBUCHET. Nearing the end of his term, Thomas had discussed getting out of the Marine Corps and returning to Harvest to help out on the farm with his parents. Just a month before he was supposed to EAS, the news of Harvest reached the public's ears. Devastated by the loss of his home world, and soon discovering his parents hadn't made it off, Stone re-enlisted and never looked back. In 2526, Oscar Company participated in Operation: PAYBACK, traveling to Harvest with Admiral Cole's fleet.
Stone fought on his war-torn, post-apocalyptic home world for five long years. By 2531 Stone was nearing the rank of Sergeant, and commanded his own fire team of battle weary Marines. After the Harvest Campaign, Oscar Company participated in several major operations against the Covenant. From Arcadia and Eridanus II all the way to the Battle of New Constinople. During the battle, Second Platoon got wind of some pilot's getting shot down near their AO at the time. Second Platoon was dispatched to rescue the pilots, and when they arrived, Thomas witnessed then-Sergeant Jace Cruz in action firsthand taking on hordes of Covenant. Later, Second Platoon was assigned to screen the company's flanks from hordes of oncoming Covenant troops and mechanized units. A plasma grenade landed near and severely wounded Gunnery Sergeant Ward. Witnessing this, Thomas fought his way over to the Gunnery Sergeant and carried him back to the platoon's corpsman under heavy fire, and received substantial burns from plasma fire to his back and legs. For his brave and selfless actions, Stone was awarded the Colonial Cross, the UNSC's highest medal.
Gunnery Sergeant Ward, having lost his legs, was reassigned to a non-combat MOS and sent to Reach. Stone received a promotion to Staff Sergeant and replaced the Gunny as Second Platoon's Sergeant. He continued to serve with distinction as a Staff Sergeant until 2540. During Operation: ACHILLES HEEL, Stone disobeyed direct orders to fall back. A small group of civilians had come under fire from Covenant troops and Second Platoon had been ordered to fall back. In direct contradiction to the orders given, he and the Marines of First Squad (who had agreed to come with him) eliminated the Covenant troops that almost slaughtered the civilians. Because of this, while taking into account his record of service, Thomas was busted back down to Sergeant and again put in command of the squad.
For the last two years Stone has been serving as its Squad Leader. He does not regret his past actions and continues to serve proudly as a UNSC Marine NCO.
